The Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, corporate entity of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, will order a probe into bloomers in the question papers for the all-India written test conducted for recruitment of Management Trainees on June 25.

Several candidates told The Hindu seeking anonymity that questions had been repeated and in some sections the total marks did not tally with the questions.

There was tough contest for the 302 posts in the RINL, a navratna company with a turnover of ₹12,781 crore. A career in it is considered quite promising. The trainees are inducted in the scale of Junior Managers with a CTC of around ₹7.5 lakh per annum. When contacted, the company admitted to receiving complaints. “We are waiting for reports from invigilators from various centres in the country. Based on their reports on different sets of questions, we will take a decision,” an official told The Hindu on Tuesday.

For instance, in the mechanical section of B series, six questions got repeated. In general, while questions from 68 to 73 got repeated in 95 to 100, there were no questions against 107 and 108.

“In English grammar, questions containing 20 marks were allegedly published in Hindi. Not only should the management punish the guilty for the unpardonable bloomers but also conduct a fresh exam,” said J. Mohan Kumar, Youth INTUC district general secretary.

The test consisted of logical reasoning, numerical, verbal, general awareness and general English besides subject-wise questions. Those qualified will appear for an interview.

Of the 98,971 candidates who applied for the MT and the Junior Medical Officer (JMO) test, 71,893 candidates wrote it. The attendance was (centre-wise) Vizag 89.18%, Hyderabad 73.65%, Vijayawada 70%, Delhi 67.85%, Kolkata 67.67%, Chennai 60.37% and Mumbai 55.13%.

Vacancies post-wise are MT (Technical) 292, JMO-7 and MT (F&A) three.

The RINL has been conducting the exam through a private firm. Complaints of mistakes in question papers have of late become a regular affair. Several complaints were received for the Junior Trainee exam also in the past.

As per the original schedule, the final key will be released on July 3 and results will be announced on July 10.
