The Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, has achieved a significant growth in production during April-November of the current fiscal, according to a press release.

Significant growth was also registered from the finishing mills of expansion — wire rod mill-2, special bar mill, and structural mill.

According to the authorities, it is noteworthy to sustain the growth in November despite shortage of iron ore due to damage to the KK line. The plant registered a growth of 12% in hot metal production, 14% in liquid steel production, and 15% in saleable steel production. It produced 2.76 million tonne of saleable steel as against 2.40 million tonne during the corresponding period the previous year.

The turnover also increased by 31% to ₹9,650 crore during the period.

P. Madhusudan, CMD, said: “The growth clearly reflects the company’s march towards ramping up capacity during the current year.”

He said RINL was targeting higher levels of production in December and was poised to achieve them with alternative arrangements being made to ensure supply of iron ore. It is expected that the iron ore supply through the normal route, KK line, from the Bailadilla mines may resume later this month, with the completion of repairs to the track, which was damaged due to a landslide.
