The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences on Monday witnessed an influx of patients with complaints of sunstroke and dehydration, mostly infants and elders, as there was no relief from heat wave condition.
The neo-natal intensive care unit here was full to its capacity as 10 infants were rushed to the hospital with symptoms of heatstroke.
The condition of the infants is stable now, RIMS Director B. Anjaiah said. “On an average, 10 patients with symptoms of sunstroke are getting admitted here each day . However, there are no casualties so far,” he added.
“People mostly come with heat syncope as body temperatures reaches above 104 degree Fahrenheit owing to dehydration. Patients suffering from heat cramps with muscles jerking involuntarily are also coming,” he explained.
