As Indian Women’s Hockey goalkeeper E. Rajani was returning home after securing the women’s Asia Cup title in Japan, she was accorded a warm reception at the Renigunta airport here on Saturday.

Speaking to The Hindu , Ms. Rajani expressed her happiness over winning the title for the second time since 2004. “We had to wait for 13 years to secure the title and this year’s win has boosted our rank to the 10th place. The team has also qualified for next year's World Cup to be scheduled to be held in London,” she said. Terming the shootout in the ‘Asia Cup’ finals as a crucial moment for the game, Ms. Rajani said the team members had worked hard to reach the current form and remarked that they would focus more on constantly improving themselves in the days to come.

She said the win had elevated the team's confidence for upcoming games and would help secure more laurels for the country. Ms. Rajani hails from Yanamalavaripalle of Chittoor district and has represented India in Rio Olympics and several international tournaments.
