Rich tributes were paid to former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on his first death anniversary across the State today.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah, who could not take part in the anniversary functions due to his ill-health, recalled his association with YSR in a video message.

Assembly Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Home Minister P Sabita Reddy, Health Minister D Nagender and senior Congress MLA J C Diwakar Reddy were among several senior leaders who paid homage to YSR at separate functions held at the Assembly, office of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) and Ravindra Bharati auditorium.

“Rajasekhara Reddy was a personality with great leadership qualities. He always thought of the welfare of poor people. We will follow his footsteps,” Mr. Nagender told reporters.

In the temple town of Tirupati, former Chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) B Karunakar Reddy organised ‘Yagam’ on the occasion.

In Visakhapatnam, the Department of Posts released a stamp to commemorate the memory of the late Chief Minister.

“It generally takes 18 months after the death of a personality to release the stamp in his memory. It is a rarest of the rare case that a stamp is released on the first death anniversary. The Department of Posts is very happy to honour this great leader,” a department official said.
