Union Tribal Affairs Minister Kishore Chandra Deo has asserted that the Congress leadership will not go back on its decision giving green signal to the formation of separate Telangana State.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Deo said the Congress leadership took a firm decision and the situation had gone out of hands. “A decision has been made. I will be happy if the decision is reversed. But I am against creating hopes among the people with false promises,” he said.
He said he had addressed letters to the high-level committee headed by A.K. Antony with specific reference to problems that could arise in his constituency. He replied in the negative when asked about the scope for change in the decision if the MPs and Ministers resign from their posts. “It is not proper to hand over such threats,” he said.
Jana and team meet Digvijay
Meanwhile, senior leader and State Minister K. Jana Reddy led a delegation of Telangana Congress leaders who called on AICC general secretary and State affairs in-charge Digvijay Singh to discuss the political situation in the State after the July 31 announcement by the party leadership. Mr. Jana Reddy told reporters later that supporters of the Telangana cause should observe restraint and ensure that there was no disturbance on account of the proposed meeting of the APNGOs on September 7.
Speed up process: Ponnala
The Congress leadership was firm on giving separate Telangana with 10 districts, including Hyderabad, and the finer details on addressing the concerns that had been raised by different sections were being worked out. Another Minister -- Ponnala Lakshmaiah -- too called on Mr. Digvijay Singh to impress upon him the need to expedite the formation of separate State.
He requested Mr. Digvijay Singh to ensure speedy implementation of the CWC decision to avoid scope for doubts among the people of Telangana over the Congress’ commitment on the separate State.
