The Forum for Development of North Andhra (FDNA) on Sunday passed a resolution asking the government to set up an exclusive research centre in the Uddanam region to study the reasons for the wide prevalence of kidney diseases in the region.

The FDNA organised a round table meeting at Palasa to discuss the issues of kidney patients and steps to be taken up to control the diseases.

FDNA general secretary A. Aja Sarma said the association had strongly felt that national and international experts should stay in Uddanam for a few months to study the exact causes for the kidney diseases in the region. He also asked the government to provide all the medical facilities, including dialysis units, in all primary health centres for the benefit of kidney patients. He also sought financial assistance and transport facility for the kidyney patients to go to hospitals for the treatment.

Mr. Aja Sarma said the issue was brought to the notice of international experts long ago but there was no follow-up action from the Indian government.
