Rentachintala sizzles at 46.8 degree C

The State is reeling under severe heat wave conditions with temperatures in almost all the districts hovering between 43 and 46 degree Celsius on Friday. The IMD Hyderabad has issued a heat wave warning for the districts in Coastal AP, Rayalseema and Telangana and has requested public to take evasive measures from the heat wave accordingly.

While Hyderabad recorded its highest maximum temperature of the season at 42.3 degree Celsius on Friday, Rentachintala recorded the highest temperature of the day at 46.8 degree C followed by Ongole, which recorded 46.2 degree Celsius. The IMD has warned of severe heat wave conditions in the districts of Visakhapatnam, West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur in Coastal AP.

In Rayalseema, severe heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in Chittoor district while in Telangana, Adilabad, Karimnagar and Nalgonda districts will be at the receiving end of the summer. According to the temperatures recorded by the district administrations at Ongole, the mercury shot up to 47 degree Celsius at some places in the district.

“There has been a gradual increase in temperatures all over the State since the past two days. On Friday, barring one or two places, almost all the regions have recorded temperatures between 44 and 47 degree Celsius. This trend is expected to continue till monsoons,” said Assistant Meteorologist, IMD Hyderabad, M. Narasimha Rao.

For the next 48 hours, the IMD has forecasted that temperatures would hover between 43 and 44 degree Celsius in Hyderabad. “There was a well marked low pressure area around Bay of Bengal, which got weakened. This has caused sudden jump in temperatures everywhere in the State,” Mr. Narasimha Rao added.

Mercury northward:

Telangana: Hyderabad (42.3), Ramagundam (45.0), Nizamabad (42.4).

Coastal AP: Nellore (44.5), Gannavaram (44.0), Kakinada (37.4), Ongole (46.2), Machlipatnam (44.5), Nandigam (44.0), Rentichintala (46.8), Bapatla (45.5), Kavali (45.3).

Rayalseema: Tirupathi (44.3), Anantapur (40.4), Kurnool (42.5)
