Residents of Koretipadu and surrounding areas have reasons to feel happy as the Guntur Municipal Corporation have renovated an existing park. Named after former Minister Alapati Venkataramaiah, the park on the Ring Road has been developed at a cost of ₹50 lakh under Amrut Scheme.

MP Galla Jayadev and MLA (Guntur West) Modugula Venugopala Reddy along with Municipal Commissioner C. Anuradha inaugurated the park. Besides a playpen, the park has an exercise facility for senior citizens and a walking track.

Ms. Anuradha said that the park on the 8th lane at Syamala Nagar has also been included among the parks that would be developed under Amrut Scheme.

Mr. Jayadev said that the parks would provide the much needed lung spaces in the city.

Later, the MP inaugurated the namma toilets near Kankaragunta Low Height Subway. Mr. Jayadev said that 30 namma toilets would be built in the city as the nine Sulabh complexes in the city have not been catering to the demands of the people.

Ms. Anuradha said that the GMC has been working to restrain open defecation in the city and was promoting individual latrines in the slums. But its efforts to prevent public defection has failed and under the namma toilet project, solar powered namma toilets would be built at 30 locations, including Arundalpeta, Gandhi Park, Palnadu bus-stand, Market Centre, BR Stadium, Manipuram Flyover and other areas of the city.
