Remove illegal structures, HC tells police

April 02, 2013 02:15 am | Updated 02:15 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A Division Bench of A.P. High Court comprising acting Chief Justice N. V. Ramana and Justice Vilas Afzulpurkar on Monday refused to accept the version of the police that they were making repairs within their existing premises near Charminar and had not violated the law.

The Bench expressed deep displeasure and asked the authorities when they would remove the ‘new structures’.

The Bench was dealing with a writ petition on the construction activity taken up by police near Charminar police station within 100 metres of Charminar. It may be recalled that the Bench treated the news story published in these columns as a writ petition and ordered notices suo motu .

The ASI on Monday informed the Bench that the police had sought permission for construction of a wall and it had not granted permission for construction as it was within 100 metres of the prohibited zone.
