Release water to TN, CS tells officials

Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao has instructed officials to take action as early as possible to release water to Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Rao gave the instructions on Wednesday after detailed discussions during the 43rd Liaison Committee meeting on Telugu Ganga project at Secretariat, which was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Gnanadesikan. According to an official release, Mr. Gnanadesikan requested AP government to supply 8,716 tmcft water for the current year. The Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary also requested AP government to approve operational rules of the project, prevent unauthorised and illegal tapping in the border and constitute a permanent technical committee for the project. Senior Irrigation, finance and other officials from both the States participated in the meeting.
