Tension prevailed on the campus of Aditya Engineering College at Surampalem near here for the second consecutive day on Tuesday with engineering students divided into two groups based on their region attacking each other with sticks and ransacking the college premises. Except for booking a case against two students, the police or the college management was reluctant to give any other details to the media.
According to reliable sources, a good number of students from Bihar have been pursing their course in engineering in the six institutions that belong to the Aditya group on the same campus.
Trouble began six months ago when a Bihari girl was seen moving closely with a Telugu boy. The Bihari boys found fault with both the girl and the boy and warned them separately.
However, the boy and the girl were reluctant to part ways and continued to move together on campus. On Monday, the Bihari boys allegedly gave the Telugu boy another warning that led to a clash between the Bihari and Telugu groups of students.
It has been learnt that 12 boys were injured in the clash, in which the condition of three boys is said to be critical.
Inspector Bharat Mataji said that based on a complaint from the college management, a case was registered against two students under Sections 448 (trespass), 509 (insulating the modest of women) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the property) of the Indian Penal Code.
