Red sanders logs seized

July 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:05 am IST - TIRUPATI:

As many as 23 red sanders logs, worth Rs. 15 lakh, were seized by the officials of Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) during a combing operation in the Rallagutta forest area, situated on the northern side of Haritha Colony near Mangalam, in the late hours of Friday. The team, led by RSI Vijay Narasimha and FSO Nagaraju, spotted a group of woodcutters carrying red sanders logs to some undisclosed location. On a sudden confrontation, the latter abandoned the logs and fled the area into deep forests. The team managed to seize 23 logs.

The details were given to the media by RSASTF DSP S.V. Sreedhar Rao here on Saturday. In view of the amendments made to the AP Forest Act, Mr. Rao urged the people to hand over red sanders logs, if any, and crossing the 20 kg permissible limit, to the nearest Forest office.
