The Chittoor police on Saturday booked three accused in red sanders cases under the Preventive Detention Act (PD Act) and shifted them to Kadapa Central Jail from here. Collector Siddarth Jain ratified the file pertaining to invoking PD Act on the trio.
According to the Additional Superintendent of Police (Red Sanders Operations) V. Ratna, the three accused - Shaik Munna alias Left Munna (33), Riyaz Basha alias Dadi Munna (32) and Srinivasulu Madhu alias Chintachettu Madhu (35) - hailed from Chittoor town and were involved in red sanders smuggling since 2011.
While the first two accused carried on them 16 cases each connected red sanders smuggling under various police stations in the district, the third accused was involved in 13 cases.
Interestingly, Riyaz was a graduate, and Madhu was a diploma holder in mechanical engineering. All the three had links with red sanders smugglers and buyers from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
