Recent rains leave 11 dead

The recent heavy rains have claimed 11 lives, caused damage to 82 houses and agricultural crops in an extent of 20,379 hectares across the State. According to an official note, four people died in Prakasam district two each in Mahabubnagar and Srikakulam and one each in Warangal, Nalgonda and Khammam districts. Most of the deaths were caused by thunderbolts and house collapse. The district Collectors were instructed to distribute ex-gratia to the families of the victims.

Crops, including 18,146 hectares of paddy, were damaged in 12 districts, while horticultural crops in 36,380 hectares were affected in 14 districts. The estimated loss to horticultural crops was Rs.36.38 cr. While 32 houses were damaged in Medak, 15 in East Godavari, 11 each in Nalgonda and Khammam, eight in Mahabubnagar and four in West Godavari districts.
