Energy Minister K. Kala Venkata Rao has called for concerted effort to achieve the targeted generation of 4,000 MW wind energy in the next five years and stressed the need to realise the full potential of wind power on a sustainable basis.

Addressing a review meeting along with Principal Secretaries Ajay Jain (Energy) and K. Vijayanand (IT and MD, AP Transco) at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Mr. Rao said priority was attached to wind and solar energies to meet the growing demand for electricity with each passing year.

He said that wind power generation increased from 700 MW in 2014-15 to 3,600 MW by March 31, 2017. It was a quantum leap and the officials should strive to give it a further boost.

Big players in the renewable energy sector such as Gamesa, Suzlon, Mytrah, and Inox were setting up their projects and more companies were ready to enter the State.

The Minister said that solar energy generation was poised to reach 5,000 MW by 2019-20 with the establishment of the mega solar parks in Rayalaseema. At present, 1,880 MW of solar energy was being produced.

Government adviser K. Ranganatham and Transco Joint MD Dinesh Paruchuri were present.
