Vizag ignored

Post bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh Visakhapatnam is the largest city with many industries located here. Notwithstanding the rhetoric of making the city a ‘Smart City’ and talking of its development, the Government has not made any effort to develop it and if focusing exclusively on the proposed State capital. The major problem of pollution due to industrialisation and open handling of cargo at the Visakhapatnam Port has not been addressed.

CBI probe

The cause of death of Karnataka cadre IAS officer D.K. Ravi should be handed over to the CBI immediately. The selective leaks by the State investigating agency inquiring into the death of the official are extremely in poor taste. The political parties should take into consideration the public outcry on the issue. The public dissent could turn into a massive negative vote for the parties.

Severe punishment needed

The recent judgment awarding 10 years imprisonment to former Haryana chief minister Choutala is insufficient. Since the case involves corruption among teachers who are responsible for building our nation’s future. The judiciary should consider the gravity of the case and award stringent deterrent punishment. Further, the judiciary should also reconsider granting bail in such cases. The Government should concentrate on cases of corruption involving politicians and key officials in the administration.

Meghdoot post cards

The Government should consider reintroduction of Meghdoot Post Cards that were within the reach of the poor. The card introduced by former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao had little space for writing, but was half the price of the regular post card. The poor could pen a few lines of their well being and send it back home without it becoming a burden on their meagre wages. The UPA Government withdrew the service. The present government should seriously consider resuming the service for the poor.
