The Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) has deputed its Director (HR) Sunita for a departmental inquiry into a rape case in which the West Godavari District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Project Director Sivasankara Rao is an accused. He was arrested and remanded to judicial custody following a complaint by a woman from Self-Help Group (SHG) that he had raped in his official chambers a few days back. Ms. Sunitha conducted an in-camera inquiry and recorded statements of the victim and the other members from the SHG women having knowledge about the incident. Earlier, she received feedback from Collector Siddharth Jain and District Legal Services Authority secretary P. Lakshmisarada. Ms. Lakshmisarada directed the police to initiate action against the official after the victim appeared before her in her chambers in the court seeking justice.
