The Palvancha rural police on Friday registered a case against Ch Rama Rao, (40), of Pandurangapuram, who allegedly raped a five-year-old girl on Thursday, under the Nirbhaya Act.

This is the first case to be booked under the Act in the district. Rama Rao has been booked under provisions of the Nirbhaya Act as well as Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and other relevant sections, said Kothagudem ASP Bhaskar Bhushan. The girl is recovering in a hospital at Palvancha and will be discharged later in the night, he added. A manhunt had been launched for the accused.

Ongole Staff Reporter adds: A 16-year-old boy, who allegedly sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl at Pakala Palepalem near Singarayakonda in Prakasam district on Monday last, was sent to the observation home for boys in Tirupati.

The Singarayakonda police produced him in the Juvenile Magistrate court here. On a complaint from the girl’s mother, police booked a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
