With a mission to creating awareness among the public about the importance of keeping themselves fit and keeping the city clean, people from different walks of life participated in ‘5K Run’ on the banks of the Godavari on Sunday morning.

From schoolchildren to veterans, people in large numbers participated in the event with utmost enthusiasm. Spreading the message loud and clear, the participants competed with each other in reaching the destination first.

Flagging-off the run at Pushkara Ghat, MP M. Murali Mohan called upon the people to focus on regular physical exercise, as it could help them keep fit. “Not just keeping yourself fit and healthy, but you should also focus on keeping the city clean and green.

This is time we took a pledge to make Rajamahendravaram a clean city,” he said, adding that the run would become an annual event and it could be elevated to a marathon, basing on the response from the individuals. “There is an increase in the number of participants this year. We are expecting similar progress in the years to come,” he said.

Mayor Pantham Rajani Seshasayi, MLA Akula Satyanarayana, Municipal Commissioner V. Vijaya Rama Raju, managing director of Kantipudi group Kantipudi Chinna Babu and other sponsors, officials and local elected representatives were present. Prizes were presented to the winners and runners up in different categories.
