Widespread rains lashed the State, particularly Telangana, on Tuesday as the low pressure area turned well-marked and moved to northern Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. The system brought in a wet spell in the State, benefiting transplantation operations by farmers for the season.
Koida in Khammam district recorded a heavy rainfall of 8 cm and Sirpur in Adilabad 7 cm.
Most places in Telangana region reported moderate rains as the south-west monsoon turned active over the region. On the other hand, only a few places received rains in Rayalaseema while the highest rainfall in Coastal Andhra was 5 cm and that was at Sompet.
More rains forecast
The rains are expected to continue over the State on Wednesday also as the well-marked low pressure area system is likely to take some more time to weaken. India Meteorological Department issued a warning to Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam to the effect that heavy rains were likely for them.
