The State government is keen to extend support to the South Central Railways (SCR) in the expansion and beautification of the Tirupati railway station, an ambitious project envisaged at an outlay of ₹50 crore.

At a high-level review meeting here on Saturday, Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar discussed with SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav, along with main stakeholders such as TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal, Collector P.S. Pradyumna, Assistant Divisional Railway Manager (Guntakal) K.R.K. Raju, MCT Commissioner V. Vijayarama Raju and TUDA Secretary K. Madhavilatha. Officials from Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) and National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) also attended.

The project envisages the opening of sixth and seventh platforms, developing a new entrance on the southern side to decongest the existing main entrance in the north and developing eight floors over the existing main building.

Earlier, the railway officials accompanied by Mr. Pradyumna inspected the scores of level crossings on Rayala Cheruvu Road, Narasingapuram, Dairy Farm and SPW College, which are major bottle necks in the city.
