Union Railway Budget-2015 has disappointed Srikakulam people who anticipated the announcement of a railway line to industrial town Rajam and sanction of new trains to the district.
Over six lakh people of the district are working in various parts of the country. Majority of them are migratory workers and travel frequently to the native district. They depend on trains which originate either from Howrah and Bhubaneswar to reach the destination. Quota in second class is very less in trains like Visakha Express and Falaknuma, forcing them to travel in jam-packed general compartments.
Rail connectivity
Another long pending demand is the rail connectivity to Varanasi from Srikakulam as majority of the devotees were forced to go Bhubaneswar to catch the connecting trains. Signalling system was also ignored in the Naupada-Gunupur route.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Dean Gunta Tulasi Rao who has conducted a study on railway issues expressed dissatisfaction over non-allocation new trains and funds for developing infrastructure.
