The driver of a police car escaped miraculously after a Bangalore-bound train hit the vehicle at an unmanned railway crossing near Guddem locality on Hindupur town outskirts on Wednesday morning. The car was to be used as a jammer in the convoy of AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who is to address an election rally in Hindupur in the evening, police said.

Police were conducting a rehearsal of the convoy movement when the ambassador car stalled on the tracks and the train on its way to Bangalore rammed into it. The driver managed to jump out in the nick of the moment. Mr. Gandhi is arriving in Puttaparthi by helicopter and drive down to Hindupur town to address an election rally.
