Rahul Gandhi before wrapping up his two-day tour of the Cyclone Hudhud affected areas on Monday visited the permanent photo exhibition set up in the memory of his father former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi here.
He along with AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh came in the after a meeting with senior Congress leaders and went inside and inspected the damaged structure. He gave a patient hearing to Sehdev Singh of Tarakeswara Foundation, which operates the memorial building. He accepted a request for funding from Rajiv Gandhi Foundation for rebuilding and revamping the permanent photo exhibition. Without any interaction with the waiting media or the Congress leaders he left. He left for New Delhi by a special flight.
Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao, who was instrumental in getting the memorial established on the Beach Road, Rajya Sabha members K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, T. Subbarami Reddy and K. Chiranjeevi, Telangana PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and former APCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana, were present on the occasion.
Earlier addressing party leaders on Sunday night, Mr. Gandhi said collective and constructive suggestions must come from party workers and leaders on the ways to strengthen the party in Andhra Pradesh.
Mr. Gandhi sought opinions from different persons and was keen to know the functioning of the three-member committees formed for each Assembly segment to revive the party. He wanted leaders to come out with suggestions and not give lectures.
He was requested to tour the Girijan areas of the district during his next visit.
