Former Union Minister and BJP leader D. Purandeswari on Saturday faulted Chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and senior TDP leaders for making different statements on the Special Category Status and criticising the Centre without realising the ground realities.

Speaking to the media here, Ms. Purandeswari said that it was not a big issue for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accord SCS to the State, but those demanding the status should also know that as many as 13 States were involved in making the same demand.

“Without considering the technical problems in the issue, the TDP leaders are talking against the Centre and Mr. Modi,” she said.

The BJP leader said that if Mr. Naidu was really interested in the issue, he should first make serious efforts to involve the Chief Ministers of the 13 States.

“When such a forum is created, the issues pertaining to SCS could be discussed in a more scientific manner. Approaching the Centre with logical parameters would be of some benefit rather than mere criticising,” she observed.

Ms. Purandeswari brushed aside the allegations of the TDP government that the Centre ignored development of A.P. She said that it was the BJP-led government that granted Rs. 4,000 crore to the Polavaram project, in addition to steadily processing various developmental works in the interest of the people of the State.

Earlier, she launched ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in Chittoor.
