Stating that winds of change were blowing across the State, TDP senior leader Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary on Friday asserted that the public mood was steadily turning in favour of their party and this would help the TDP get a winning edge in the 2014 elections.
He said the emotions that dominated the political scene were no more playing any role and the sympathy factor was also eroding for the YSR Congress Party with its president Jaganmohan Reddy continuing to be in jail in the illegal assets case.
Addressing a press conference at the TDP office here, Mr. Chowdary said that in the face of declining public sympathy, the YSRC leaders were losing their cool and were making objectionable statements like calling upon their party cadres to make physical attacks on the rival party leaders. “Such thinking would only prove counter productive to YSRC leaders. It will not work in our democratic set up,” he asserted.
Stating that threatening statements were being issued in the name of Mr. Jagan and Ms. Vijayamma recently, Mr. Chowdary said that the YSRC leaders would be wrong if they thought of controlling all the people through strong-arm tactics like in Pulivendula. It would not be possible for them under any circumstances to turn the entire State into Pulivendula.
Mr. Chowdary said that the YSRC would meet the same fate as that of actor Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party, which disappeared without a trace after coming before the public with high-sounding slogans like social justice.
Stating that the TDP was drawing plans to continue its good performance in the Nellore district, Mr. Chowdary said that in 2009, the party won good number of Assembly segments here despite negative vote and there were plenty of chances for it now to win all the 10 segments in 2014. To mobilise public support, the bus yatra of N. Chandrababu Naidu would be held here in July.
In the next few weeks, coordination meetings would be held in all the Assembly segments and in-charges would be appointed to organise party activities, said Mr. Chowdary.
He held meetings with TDP polit bureau member Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, district president Beeda Ravi Chandra, senior leader Bezawada Obul Reddy and others.
