There was an all-round attack on the government on the issue of capping fee reimbursement on Thursday as several student bodies, youth organisations, political parties and other outfits staged protests at different places here.

Protests were staged in front of Raj Bhavan, in the Secretariat, at Chief Minister’s camp office, Ministers’ Quarters, office of the State Council of Higher Education and other places. Police resorted to lathi-charge on the activists of AISF, SFI, AIYF and DYFI as they tried to storm the Ministers’ Quarters in Banjara Hills.

Tension prevailed there as the doggedness of the student and youth activists in their attempt to storm the Ministers quarters’ campus resulted in jostling between them and the police, who were deployed in large numbers. After heated exchanges, the police caned the students to disperse them and later arrested several of them and bundled them into waiting police vans.

About a dozen MLAs of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) led by G. Muddu Krishnama Naidu staged a protest sit-in in front of the ‘C’ Block (the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary’s office complex) in Secretariat against the government decision on fee-reimbursement. They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary. State president of BJP G. Kishan Reddy criticised the government for diluting the scheme. The activists of TNSF staged protest in front of Raj Bhavan.
