Protesting AISF leaders arrested

July 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:03 am IST - KURNOOL:

Police arrested AISF leaders when they tried to storm the Kurnool Collectorate on Wednesday alleging that the government planned to close down several social welfare hostels and government schools.

AISF State general secretary Viswanath, district president Srinivasulu, secretary Chandrasekhar, city secretary Mahendra, organising secretary Ranganna, vice-presidents Bhargav and Venkatesh and a large number of students jostled with the police when they picketed Kurnool Collectorate. Police thwarted their bid to scale the Collectorate gate and storm the premises.

They sought filling of hostel warden posts, provide basic amenities and increase the mess charges of hostellers. Resenting the arrests, the activists staged rasta roko before NTR statue and before the Kurnool III Town police station for some time. The arrested leaders were released later.
