V. Rosamma, who shot to fame as ‘Dubagunta Rosamma’ with her anti-liquor agitation in the 1990s, is now suffering from kidney disorder which has worsened because of her poverty.
The septuagenarian social activist has to travel from her native village ‘Dubagunta’ in Kaligiri mandal for treatment in Nellore city.
The doctors at the Nellore Hospital said she was late by four to five months and her condition deteriorated considerably.
Once surrounded by scores of anti-arrack agitators, Rosamma is now forced to wait and seek support under the ‘Arogyasri’ programme for getting further treatment for her illness.
Her son, a daily wage worker, is not able to meet the rising expenditure on her treatment.
Dr. G. Vijaykumar of Nellore Hospital said that the aged woman activist needed strong support now and her family members would have to shift to Nellore to take proper care of her.
Her relatives say they have no means to live in the city and are seeking support in the form of a house site from the Government and financial support from well-wishers.
