The process for the re-election of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as the president of the party began on Saturday. Returning officer Ummareddy Venkateswarlu received nominations for the post. The papers would be scrutinised on Saturday itself. Since Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy would be the only person to file papers his unanimous election would be announced on Sunday.

Mr. Jagan, who made a brief welcome speech, said he would speak at length on Sunday.

The first resolution to be introduced at the third national plenary session was on agriculture. Farmer’s Wing chairman MVS Nagireddy said Chandrababu Naidu was deceiving the farmers who were suffering due to severe drought through lies.

General secretary Dharmana Prasada Rao in his report said the party should conduct a Plenary Session as per the guidelines of the Election Commission for the party to be recognised. He said the people of Andhra Pradesh gave the YSR Congress the responsibility of being the prime Opposition. The party had been playing the role to the best of its ability for the past three years and it would do the same for the next two years until elections were held, he said.

Another general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V. Vijaysai Reddy presented the details of expenditure in the year.

‘Atrocities on

women increased’

MLA R K Roja said attacks and atrocities on women had increased during the rule of Mr. Chandrababu Naidu. While women were suffering because of liquor, the government was only thinking of the revenue additional outlets were going to bring.

Party minority leader Rehman said only Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy provided reservations to Muslim minorities. Mr. Naidu’s claims that he developed Hyderabad city were false. It was a 400-year-old city with several great monuments like Charminar. The city was developed long before Mr. Naidu came there.

He said it would become evident in the Nandyal by-election that Mr. Jagan would be the next Chief Minister.
