Minister for Mines and Geology R.V.S.K. Ranga Rao took a serious view of the two maternal mortalities that occurred reportedly due to delay in extending medical facilities to the victims at Kurupam and Salur CHCs on Monday and asked the personnel of Medical and Health and 108 Services to work with coordination to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future. At the same time, he asked Collector Vivek Yadav to probe the incidents for taking action against those concerned.

The Minister discussed the issue with the Collector, DM&HO Padmaja, Coordinator of District Hospitals Usha Sri, District Manager of 108 Services Srikanth, and others at the ZP Guest House here on Tuesday.

Collector Yadav appointed K. Nageswara Rao, Joint Collector-2, as chairman and Superintendent of Parvathipuram Area Hospital, DM&HO, and District Hospitals Coordinator as members to probe the circumstances that led to the death of a tribal woman Thoyaka Anasuya (22) of Dandusura, a hamlet of Gummdiguda panchayat under Kurupam CHC.

According to reports, Anasuya is to deliver on August 22 but she developed pains in the wee hours on July 23. Her relations immediately called up 108 Services, which arrived at 4 a.m. Meanwhile, she delivered a baby and fell unconscious. She was rushed to Kurupam CHC where the doctor was not available. On receiving information, duty doctor Srikanth at Ravada Ramabhadrapuram PHC attended on her but she died later. In the case of Chintada Chinnammalu (20) of Baguvalasa under Salur CHC, who died after delivering a male baby, the Minister ordered maternal death review (MDR) as she reportedly died of respiratory problem and lack of oxygen refill in 108 Services which carried her to district headquarters hospital for treatment. However, Dr. Usha Sri informed the Minister that the woman suffered respiratory problem due to food particle jammed in her lungs and denied that 108 Services lacked oxygen.
