Probe launched into mining irregularities

The district authorities have initiated a full-fledged probe into the alleged irregularities in the mining of silica in several villages located in Chillakur mandal limits in Nellore district here on Wednesday.

Several people’s representatives have brought to the notice of the officials that the illegal mining activities have led to the disappearance of internal roads and minor canals in Momidi village. Following this, the officials are stated to have taken up a thorough probe with the help of staff of the mines and geology department. The inquiry is being conducted into the extent of lands illegally mined in the past several years and also the damage that is caused to the neighbouring eco system because of this.
