The Telugu Desam Party moved two privilege motions in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Friday – one against Rajya Sabha Member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao and the other against YSR Congress party MLAs.
The Assembly could not conduct any business as the House had to be adjourned twice with the YSR Congress members insisting on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s clarification with regard to the ‘Cash-for-Vote’ scam. The ruling party members served the privilege notices before the House was adjourned sine die.
Ruling party member Nageswar Reddy moved the privilege notice motion against Mr. Ramachandra Rao for making certain remarks. The TDP member alleged that Dr. Ramachandra Rao while objecting the removal of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s portrait from the Assembly lounge made certain remarks belittling the office of the Speaker and the dignity of the House and demanded that action be initiated against him.
Another member Anitha moved a privilege notice motion against the YSRC members who put up a photo of the late Chief Minister in the Assembly lounge without taking permission of authorities concerned. She sought an inquiry to ascertain who violated the norms so that appropriate action could be initiated against them.
Ms. Anitha said in the last session too the ruling party members moved privilege motion against the YSR Congress members for levelling allegations against the Speaker and it was dropped after they tendered an apology.
However, this time the Speaker should initiate action to prevent recurrence of such incidents, the legislator said.
Privilege notice will be referred to the Privilege Committee for taking necessary action
