As Andhra Pradesh stepped into 2010, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, on Friday, unveiled an action plan listing out welfare and development of infrastructural facilities as the priorities of his government for the year.
Addressing a press conference on the occasion of New Year’s Day, Mr. Rosaiah said as far as irrigation sector was concerned, priority would be given to complete those projects which reached advanced stage of construction requiring only final touches and from which water could be released immediately for crops. Proper allocations would be made in the 2010 budget to all the projects under the Jalayagnam programme.
The Chief Minister said the first priority between the two specified schemes would be welfare as no development would be possible unless people were happy, healthy and literate. This implied that the present emphasis on education and health would continue. If there was any delay in release of scholarships/tuition fee reimbursement, it might be due to procedures to be followed. Mr. Rosaiah said the memories of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s untimely and tragic demise in a helicopter crash still haunted him and the people of the State at large.
“We have to come out of the grief and work towards his ideals. Dr. Reddy launched unprecedented number of welfare schemes and I will continue with them without any compromise and with proper fund allotments.”
