Principal killed as speeding lorryhits college bus

A principal was killed on the spot and seven others were seriously injured when a college bus was hit by a speeding lorry near Madanapalle on Wednesday.

Principal Syed Mohammad Shariff (44), along with seven academic faculty members and three students, was going to Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati in the bus belonging to Viswam Degree and B.Ed College of Madanapalle. At Sattivaripalle village near Madanapalle, a speeding lorry collided with the bus. Shariff died on the spot, while seven others were grievously injured. All the injured were rushed to Government Area Hospital at Madanapalle. As condition of a lecturer Raghavendra deteriorated, he was rushed to the Christian Medical College Hospital at Vellore in Tamil Nadu.

The Madanapalle rural police who rushed to the spot oversaw rescue operations. The lorry was seized and its driver arrested. Shariff's body was shifted to area hospital for autopsy. A large number of students and college faculty broke down and recalled his services to college for the last 15 years.
