The President’s rule imposed on Andhra Pradesh will be suspended on Monday as the K. Chandrasekhar Rao-led Telangana Rashtra Samithi government takes oath in the newly created State of Telangana. A notification will soon be issued to temporarily revoke President’s rule in Telangana.
Central rule will continue in successor state of Andhra Pradesh till Telugu Desam Party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu takes charge as Chief Minister on June 8. President’s Rule was imposed in Andhra Pradesh on March 1 after N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, angered by Parliament’s decision to bifurcate the State, resigned as Chief Minister.
Last week, President Pranab Mukherjee asked E.S.L. Narasimhan, the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Telangana until a “permanent arrangement” was made. The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act envisages a common Governor for a period “determined” by the President.
A communiqué from Rashtrapati Bhavan said Mr. Narasimhan’s appointment would take effect from the date he assumed charge of his office.
Hyderabad is to be the common capital for the two States for 10 years.
