The Centre took the decision to impose President’s rule in the State due to inevitable circumstances, Polit Bureau member of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy said here on Friday. He accused the Congress of trying to utilise even this constitutional process for its political interests.
Demanding that the Centre speed up the process to complete the formation of Telangana State, he asked the ruling party to explain the reasons for the delay in imposing President’s rule.
Terming the decision to impose President’s rule ‘unfortunate’, YSRC leader M.V. Mysoora Reddy said the ruling party had taken the decision as it was unable to provide an administration elected by people. By doing so the Centre has betrayed people, he remarked.
National vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Bandaru Dattatreya, termed the move of the Union Cabinet to impose President’s Rule in Andhra Pradesh as one that ‘butchered democracy’ and a ‘Black Day’ for people of the State. In a press release, he said the formation of the two States was being unnecessarily delayed by the Union government and the Congress, and demanded that the same be formed immediately and elections conducted peacefully. Mr. Dattatreya said it was surprising to note that even after people gave the Congress the mandate to rule A.P. for five years, it had decided to impose President’s Rule. The CPI too, condemned the move. In a statement, State Secretary K. Narayana questioned the move, especially when the Congress was in power, at the Centre and the State and amidst reports that the election notification was expected in just a week. National president of the Lok Satta Party, Jayaprakash Narayan, however, said that there was no alternative to President’s Rule in the ‘murky circumstances’ prevailing in A.P. He said the government had ceased to exist in the State for the past two years.
For Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the decision to impose President’s rule was a setback because it was hoping that the elections would be held in two separate States. TRS MLA K.T. Rama Rao said the party was hoping that the Central government would ideally follow the democratic process and conduct elections in two States.
