Collector M.M. Naik on Monday said that efforts were on to restore power in all mandal headquarters by Wednesday and in Panchayats on the following day.
Speaking at a media conference here, Mr. Naik said that power would be restored fully in all the four municipalities by Monday evening. In addition to the existing 2,500 workforce, 4,000 more were needed to complete the restoration works by October 24 or 25. To meet the targets, he was contemplating engaging MNREGS workers for re-erection of electric poles in rural areas. He would also seek support of the ZPTC and MPTC members in this respect. The Collector hoped that power to all agricultural pump sets would be supplied by the end of this month.
On extending essentials to the cyclone victims, the Collector said that rice was being lifted for distribution in 12 severely and 22 partially affected mandals by Tuesday. Sugar and other essential commodities would be supplied from Wednesday, he added.
The Collector said removal of uprooted trees would take 10 more days. He asked the households in municipality limits to dial 1949 or municipal offices to remove trees in their compounds.
