Power supply had been restored in all the four municipalities, one Nagara Palika and headquarters of all 34 mandals in the district by Diwali, K. Ranganatham, Officer on Special Duty (Energy Department), claimed in a press release on Friday.
Stating that Hudhud cyclone had caused extensive damage to the power sector in he State, Mr. Ranganatham said as many as 9,524 electric poles were either uprooted or broken in addition to damaging 11,949 distribution transformers in the district. He put the loss to EPDCL at Rs. 41.5 crore.
Around 3,500 workers and 100 top EPDCL officials have been engaged on the restoration works and they have replaced 8,643 electric poles and 9,752 distribution transformers so far. After completing the works, power supply to domestic consumers in rural areas would possibly be restored by October 26 and supply to agriculture pump sets by October 30, he added.
