The precarious power situation in the State is likely to worsen, judging by a statement made by the government in the Assembly on Saturday.
The statement, tabled by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, climaxing a consistent demand made by Telugu Desam and YSR Congress for a debate on the “darkness Andhra Pradesh was groping in”, said that the daily shortage would go up to 62 million units (mu) from the present 43 mu as the overall demand was set to cross 308 mu compared to the limited availability of 246 mu.
Power cuts
It said the utilities would be forced to continue the supply cut at the present rate in two spells -- three hours in Hyderabad, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and Warangal; four hours for district headquarters/municipal corporation cities; six hours for towns/ municipalities and; eight hours for mandal headquarters.
Any monsoon failure was likely to extend the ordeal beyond June.
