Suspected Maoists put up wall posters at the remote Chinamidisileru village in Charla mandal in the early hours of Sunday urging people to boycott the upcoming local body and general elections.

According to sources, the suspected rebels also tied a banner to a tree on the outskirts of the forest fringe village, calling on people to ‘stay away’ from the ensuing elections and ‘chase away’ the leaders of political parties, who come to seek votes.

The banner and wall posters were written in the name of CPI (Maoist) Venkatapuram area committee.

It may be noted that a few wall posters surfaced in the name of district police in Chintur mandal on Saturday with an appeal to the rebels to shun the armed struggle and join the mainstream. The posters reportedly contained the photographs of some of undergrounds cadres and the rewards on their heads.
