Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar has urged the district election authorities to forgive the accused involved in the auctioning of sarpanch and other grama panchayat posts in Basavapur village of Sircilla mandal as they have not done the auction of posts intentionally.
Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, he said that the main accused Ponnam Ravinder Goud and others were innocent and they had participated in the auctioning of the sarpanch and other posts as they were unaware of the existence f election code of conduct. They have not done it purposefully, but in order to save the election expenditure and to avoid election process, they had conducted the auction, he maintained.
Registration of criminal cases against only 11 persons was not correct, he said and added that entire village was present in the auctioning of sarpanch and other posts and the administration should register cases against all the villagers who participated in the auctioning process. Stating that he had warned the accused involved in the auctioning of sarpanch post, he urged the State Election commission to excuse the people involved in the auctioning with a warning.
Welcoming the issuance of election notification for the conduct of grama panchayat elections, he said that the panchayat elections would be held without any political parties’ symbol and called upon the villagers to elect an efficient leader, who would strive for the development of the village. He urged upon the villagers to strive to ensure that the contesting candidates were elected unanimously in order to win the government incentive of Rs 5 lakh for the development of village.
He also called upon the political parties not to play politics in the panchayat elections and also not to claim the victory of sarpanchs as their party victory. He also said that he would not claim the victory of their party supporters in the elections.
