Police have registered a suo motu case against Congress MP from Karimnagar Ponnam Prabhakar on Friday for threatening to eliminate Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy if he visited Karimnagar district.

Superintendent of Police V. Shiva Kumar said a case had been booked against the MP under Section 153 of the IPC for making threatening statements against the Chief Minister at a press conference on Thursday. They had collected all the data, including the video and media clippings, and begun investigations.

Mr. Prabhakar clarified that he had made that statement in a different context to convey the anger of the Telangana people.

“I do not have any weapons and am not a terrorist to kill any person,” he said. Speaking to mediapersons after participating in the Savitri Bhai Phule birth anniversary celebrations here, the MP expressed concern over the sensation created by his statement when he had made a passing reference in a different context.

He wondered why there was no such sensation when more than 1,100 youth committed suicide for Telangana.
