A group of students affiliated to KU Students Joint Action Committee went berserk after gaining entry into the residence of Minister for Information Technology Ponnala Lakshmaiah here on Wednesday.
As the security personnel at the Minister's residence could not prevail upon the students who came in scores, the youth entered inside, pulled down a photograph of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and damaged it. They went round the house looking for things to vandalise while some tried to enter the main hall of the residence pushing away the housekeeper.
Meanwhile, police arrived in good numbers and tried to pull the agitators away by force. The students refused to move and squatted on the premises shouting slogans demanding the resignation of Mr. Lakshmaiah in support of separate Telangana. The police dragged away the students and carted them away in vehicles. A total of 17 students were taken into custody. Political JAC district chairman T. Papi Reddy and TRS district convenor P. Sudarshan Reddy condemned the arrests and warned that the movement would be intensified and the public representatives of Congress and TDP would be chased away if they did not resign.
Meanwhile, the advocates who created a scene at the District Congress office repeated it on Wednesday at the TDP district unit office. They defaced the name board of the office and raised slogans against TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu. They demanded that the TDP MLAs resign from Assembly membership and join the ongoing separate Telangana movement. Bar Association president Amarender Reddy and others wanted the party to adopt a clear stand on the Telangana issue.
