Polls put off in flood-hit villages in AP

The State Election Commission has decided to reschedule the dates for polling in the gram panchayats affected by heavy rains and floods in six districts across the State.

This was done in response to the reports sent by the Collectors of Adilabad, East Godavari, Karimnagar, Khammam, Nizamabad and Warangal where several villages were marooned and roads and communication network disrupted. Elections to these gram panchayats, numbering over 300, will now be held on July 31 as part of the third phase.

The State Election Commissioner P. Ramakant Reddy in an order on Sunday said flood-affected panchayats in 22 mandals of Adilabad district were notified where elections have been postponed. Polls have been postponed in all panchayats in Kagaznagar, Dahegaon, Bheemini, Sirpur (T), Bejjur, Koutala, Vemanpallly, Kotpally where there is a contest. In the same manner, elections in all gram panchayats in Bhadrachalam division where there is a contest have been postponed.

In Karimnagar district, elections were put off in Peddampet, Lenkalagadda Pallemmala, Pankena and Sarvaipet panchayats of Mahadevpur mandal.

Elections in four villages in Devipatnam mandal and two in Y. Ramavaram mandal in East Godavari were put off. Elections will be held on July 23.
