The polling stations located in the mandals along the Krishna river are prone to possible Maoist attacks during the elections. According to a map obtained from Nalgonda police, the mandals Peddavoora, P.A.Pally, Chandampet, Devarakonda in Devarakonda Assembly constituency.
The Nallamala forest area also touches these mandals and the Damarcherla mandal in Miryalaguda constituency, Mattampaally and Nereducherla mandals in Huzurnagar constituency are the place where extremists may attempt to prove their presence during elections.
Three key important features of these seven mandals are they all touches Krishna river, also having forest cover and having more tribal concentration. Six of them are bordering mandals with neighbouring Guntur and Mahabubnagar districts.
However, Superintendent of Police T. Prabhakar Rao has said there are no movement of armed Maoists in the district currently, but they felt that Maoist’s might make attempts to prove their presence in these mandals at the time of elections.
According to the polling station-wise, the district administration has prepared polling stations dividing them into four categories hypersensitive, sensitive, extremist presence and normal. Among the 3,020 polling stations, 57 polling stations are having extremist presence partly, 495 hypersensitive, 841 sensitive and 1,627 are normal. Devarakonda constituency is having 49 polling stations that are partly extremist affected, while Huzurnagar, Nagarjunasagar and Miryalaguda constituencies are having 6, 1 and 1 polling stations partly having extremist presence respectively.
The Superintendent of Police has said that the Maoist presence has been declined to a great extent in the district in the recent years as had resorted no violent activity. He hoped that they would be able to complete elections on peaceful note as they had made very good security arrangements working closely with District Collector T. Chiranjeevulu.
