The model code of conduct may come in the way of Ugadi celebrations, including reading of the almanac and presentation of Ugadi Puraskars on March 31.
Replying to a query from media persons here on Tuesday, Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal said the issue has been represented to the Election Commission and they are awaiting its response. The CEO said that they had also forwarded political parties’ representation that the results of municipal and panchayat raj institutions should not be announced ahead of the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections as they might have a bearing on the voters. “However, the Election Commission has not yet taken any decision. We will remind it once again,” he said.
On the proposed hike in electricity tariff by the A.P. State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Mr. Bhanwar Lal said the proposal had been sent to the EC for its approval. On pending applications under the CM’s Relief Fund after the model code of conduct came into existence, he said no file related to CMRF had come to the commission notice. About 7,000 persons, who did not submit their election expenditure in various cases were disqualified.
