Attempt of BJP leaders’ to hoist the national flag at Adilabad Collectorate foiled

The police on Tuesday thwarted the bid by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists to hoist the national flag at the Police Parade Ground here to commemorate the Hyderabad Liberation Day. Party cadres including its District unit president Ayyannagari Bhumaiah and general secretary Durgam Rajeshwar were arrested in a similar incident, when they tried to break the security cordon in place near the Collectorate.

Raising slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, BJP workers in huge numbers gathered at the R&B Guest House Ground and marched towards the Police Parade Ground via Collectorate Chowk. Noticing a heavy security bandobust in place at the Collectorate and the Court Complex, they started running towards the AR headquarters.

Meanwhile, the Congress and the Communist Party of India too celebrated the Hyderabad Liberation Day at the respective party offices.

State govt. flayed

Meanwhile, the BJP unit in Nalgonda district observed September 17 as the Telangana Vimochana Dinam (Freedom for Telangana). The BJP activists hoisted black flags at their offices across the district, flaying the State government for its failure in organising the celebrations officially . As part of their protest, some BJP cadres led by party’s District president Veereslli Chandrasekhar proceeded towards the SP office to hoist black flags there before the police obstructed them at the Clock Tower Centre and took into custody.

Mr. Chandrasekhar said that the State government had failed in respecting the sentiments of Telangana people. While Maharastra and Karnataka governments are observing September 17 as the Vimochana Dinam officially in the districts that were part of the erstwhile Nizam princely State, the AP government even did not allow the celebrations, he said. In Bhuvanagiri town, private school students took out a rally, carrying a 100-feet-long tricolour. TDP Bhuvangiri MLA Alimineti Umamadha Reddy hoisted national flag at her office. Speaking on the occasion, she said many people had laid down their lives to achieve freedom for the Telangana region .
