The police thwarted the attempts of the CPI(M) to organise a meeting in Bhimavaram on Wednesday in connection with the social boycott incident at Garagaparru and arrested party’s State secretary P. Madhu and others.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Ratna, there was no permission to organise meeting at old bus stand in Bhimavaram and they took some leaders into custody and shifted them to Kalla police station.

The police imposed Section 144 in all the routes leading to Bhimavaram and did not allow any vehicle to move from villages. However, about 200 CPI(M) workers led by Mr. Madhu squatted on Bhimavaram-Tadepalligudem highway and raised slogans in the afternoon. The police foiled their bid to break the barricades.

Speaking to media persons before the arrest, Mr. Madhu said that police have failed to take further action in the case, except arresting three people.

The ASP said that they would file charge-sheet shortly and added that justice would be done to Dalits, who faced social boycott.
